Just moved in to a new place and will be converting the old gas cooktop to induction. I also need to replace the 23 year old electric tank water heater and want to be proactive about it. The gas line going to the cooktop passes right by the water heater, and since that won't be used anymore, I'm wondering if this line could be rerouted for a gas-powered tankless water heater. Any thoughts would be great. Turn off the manual shut-off valve if the water heater has been subjected to overheating, fire, flood, physical damage or if the gas supply fails to shut off. q ...24 pages

Most single family homes do have gas. Apartments are generally all electric. Most clothes dryers are generally electric. Residential propane tanks are sometimes as small as 60 gallons and as large as 1,000 gallons. It's my mistake as I gave it to my plumber not thinking about whether this was a good idea. I've read most opinions which say it needs a metal pan and just a few saying not to worry because the new units won't cause issues. The manual indicates it needs a metal pan so I think I have to bite the bullet, but I'm curious for your opinions. Assuming I have to replace it are there any tips to make it an easier effort? Thanks. Hi all! My gas water heater is set to 120F. I’m thinking about setting it to 125F or 130F, as by the time it travels all the way to my master bath in a different floor, it’s a bit cooler. What do you have yours set to? A quick google search is proving unhelpful - I’m seeing ranges from 120-140 but also people saying 130 is unsafe for scalding reasons. It’s just me - no children and no elderly. Would 130 be too much? Is 125 the ideal? There is another bathroom very close to the water heater a...

In central Texas .Got two quotes one was $1650 (Home Depot) the other $1595 (local plumbing company) and currently waiting on the guy (from Lowe’s) outside to give me the third quote. The first two are around the same price. Is that the normal range? It’ll pay for everything. Labor and cost of water heater. Water heater is outside in a little water closet up against the house. Turned the knob (Honeywell) to pilot, click on the button below it, but I’m not seeing any flame. I tried it a few times, waited a few minutes while gas is off, waited a few minutes while gas is on, but I’m still not able to light it up. What could have gone wrong here? I'm in Central New Jersey where it's currently about 15° outside. My 15-year-old 50 gal gas powered water heater has developed a leak and needs to be replaced. My local plumber wants me to replace with a standard gas water heater. I'm also considering an opportunity to upgrade to something more efficient. It strikes me that a hybrid water heater that operates with a heat exchanger might be the smartest choice at the moment. Alternatively, I can consider a combination gas powered unit for my boi... Hello, My current gas water tank is about 10 years old and I'm considering converting to an electric. Has anyone done the conversion and regretted? Anything I should be considering before going through with it? Edit: For some context, I can either replace it for a gas unit $2,000 or an electric one for $1,100. I know gas is generally cheaper but where I live I pay about 5 cents a kwh for electricity. Taken together, I'm thinking electric is the more economical option but wanted to know if I'm ... I'm not a plumber and have never done this. Took me 3 or 4 weeks from start to finish, but I did it. From someone telling me it was out, to procrastinating, to calling a professional to "fix" it and getting turned down several times, to watching youtube videos on diagnosing the problem, to ordering parts, and watching more youtube videos how to install it. Took me less than an hour to install and I made a small mess. I just finished a few minutes ago, at 3am and viola, it works and there is hot... Can I split that line or is that a no no? The dryer would not be too close to the washer, so it wouldn't be overcrowded. Update: Local plumber said the line wouldn't be able to handle both appliances, and a new line would be needed

We’ve had two different companies out to replace our old 77 gallon gas water heater with a tankless and one quoted $5200 and the other $5800. This included the cost of the appliance itself. Is this insanely high or is it just me? Refer to the “Locating The New. Water Heater” section of this manual and also the current edi- tion of the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1, also referred to ...24 pages The principle behind tankless water heaters is simple: Exhaust. Secondary heat exchanger. Intake port. Condensate drain port. Cold water inlet. Gas.64 pages I have a 1/“2 gas line at my water heater and the 3/4” branch is not accessible without ripping out floors. Relocating the water heater would be just as complicated. Is the 1/2” sufficient for a 1,600sf home on a tankless heater, or will I run into problems? Or should I try and hold out until a major remodel to switch to tankless and resize the gas when I pull up floors.
